File Under: Things I look forward to

I find small furry mammals endearing for some reason, particularly the ones that must spend a significant portion of their existence with some nerve-wracking notion that at any moment something might swoop out of the sky and bring a messy end to things.

I never thought much about where hamsters came from.  Apparently, they came from the wild!  And they exist throughout Europe and Russia… this wild black-bellied variety.  They are nocturnal and normally are not known for their ferocity, but apparently things can go bad.  This is what happens if they’re awakened and poked with a stick by people speaking Russian:

I will not taunt the hamsters.  Or the marmots.  Or any other mammals, even though I am now inoculated against rabies.
